Dr Tai Phan is a highly qualified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon. He has a special interest in the surgical treatment of facial skin cancers, and laser treatment of facial vascular lesions and photoageing.
Dr Phan grew up in Sydney, completing his undergraduate medical degree with Honours from the University of New South Wales in 2000. Dr Phan pursued his interest in dermatology and skin cancer through obtaining his Master of Public Health at the University of NSW in 2005, and Master of Medicine (Dermatology) at the University of Sydney in 2006. His research has been published in international medical journals, notably his work identifying the specific UV wavelengths causing the most immunosuppression which predisposes humans to skin cancer. Dr Phan completed his third Master degree, Master of Health Management, at the University of NSW in 2012.
Dr Phan became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2011, subsequently joining The Skin Hospital Westmead to perform skin cancer surgery and laser procedures. He supervises and teaches Dermatology Registrars in his role as a VMO at the Concord Repatriation General Hospital.
In 2015, Dr Phan was selected for the Fellowship program in Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology (Mohs) at the University of Toronto, Canada. This program is endorsed by the American College of Mohs Surgery. During his Fellowship, Dr Phan trained at the largest Mohs Centre in Canada under the expert guidance of internationally recognised dermatologists Dr Christian Murray, Dr Nowell Solish and Dr An-Wen Chan. Dr Phan gained considerable experience with the Mohs Surgery technique and the reconstruction of complex surgical defects on the face, head and neck. Dr Phan utilises this surgical expertise to further enhance his practice of skin cancer management at Hunters Hill Private Hospital.
Dr Phan enjoys playing tennis, skiing and spending time with his young family.
